“An American sharpshooter in Europe: Draeculacephala robinsoni" Alberto Fereres, Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) SPAIN. Alberto Fereres, Full Professor at ICA-CSIC, Madrid, with more than 35 years of experience in the area of agricultural entomology and phytopathology, including graduate and post-graduate stays abroad, a MSc. degree (1987) in Entomology obtained at Purdue University, (West Lafayette, Indiana) and a Postdoctoral stay at University of California, Riverside (1989). A 1-year sabbatical stay at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1997) completed the background in the area of applied entomology and insect vectors of plant pathogens. His fields of specialization include insect feeding behaviour, insect ecology, virus-vector-plant interactions, viruses epidemiology and integrated pest management. Recently, he has obtained three projects within H-2020 program (UE) and participated in a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Project. Also, Chairman of the Plant Virus Epidemiology Committee of the ISPP since 2007 to 2019. Currently, he is the team leader of the "Insect Vectors of Plant Pathogens" research group at ICA-CSIC, Madrid.His research group is one of the best known internationally in the field of the feeding behavior of sap-sucking insects and the transmission of plant viruses, having hosted students and researchers from France, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Italy, Cuba, Morocco, United States, New Zealand, Australia and Spain.
