Understanding Plant Infestations: From Fruit Fly Detection to Nematode Resilience

Image

Description

The Green ERA-Hub webinar series on Plant Health and Protection was designed to provide an in-depth exploration of the critical factors influencing plant health, with a focus on the prevention and management of diseases, pests, and environmental stressors.

This video explores two critical areas of agricultural science. First, it dives into the fascinating role of fruit volatiles in detecting fruit fly infestations. Learn how specific scents emitted by fruits attract these pests, and how scientists are using this knowledge to develop more effective detection methods to protect crops. Next, the video shifts focus to Meloidogyne Enterolobii, a soil-dwelling nematode that’s spreading rapidly across Europe. Its ability to survive under temperate climate conditions and its growing distribution, which pose a serious threat to agriculture., were discussed. Together, these talks highlight how modern research is tackling the growing challenges posed by pests to our food security.
