Basic substance are mostly biorationals (medicinal plant extracts), products used in human medicine (chitosan), food compounds (milk, whey, vinegar, beer, fructose, sucrose, lecithin, oils) or common substances (talc, bicarbonate, amino acids, clay and charcoal) but used as plant protection products. An Euphresco project was commissioned in 2020 with the objective to: 1) collect information on the effectiveness of basic substances in the control of pest and diseases in different areas (field, postharvest and seed treatment); 2) collect data on potential basic substances that have the properties to be included in the list; 3) investigate on mechanisms of action of basic substances and potential basic substances in the control of pathogens and pests.  The final meeting of the project was organized in Paris on 2023-08-31 to present the results on: 1) the use of basic substances and potential basic substances to manage diseases and pests in the field; 2) the use of basic substances and potential basic substances to manage postharvest  diseases and pests; 3) the use of basic substances and potential basic substances to manage seedborne pathogens and pests; 4) the approval and extension of use of basic substances.
