The 12th of May is the UN International Day of Plant Health, an opportunity to raise awareness on the importance of plant health in our daily lives. Many celebrations occur every year all over the world.

In 2026 the Plant Health TV video contest was organized by the the Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI), CABI, the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies of Bari (CIHEAM Bari), the International Seed Federation (ISF), the Plant Biosecurity Research Initiative (PBRI), and the Euphresco network for phytosanitary research coordination and funding. 

The video, prepared by Shiron Thalagala, focusses on developing a
fungal spore trapping device. This technology enables the real-time
detection of plant pathogenic fungi, allowing for proactive
management through enhanced surveillance.
