Xylella seminar: 'Communicating plant health to the broad public: the making of the Xylella comic'
Description
Second seminar of the new Xylella Seminar Series jointly organised by the EU funded Bexyl project, EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) and Auburn University . EFSA has taken an innovative approach to raising awareness of the plant health threat posed by Xylella fastidiosa by launching its first comic strip "Fastidious X, the fearsome killer”. The communication product takes readers on a journey to discover how science is key to tackling a pathogen that causes serious economic and environmental damage. Illustrated by Miriam Rivera, “Fastidious X, the fearsome killer” was developed by EFSA plant health and communication specialists, together with Miguel Ángel Miranda, an expert in vectors entomology from the University of the Balearic Islands (ES). The comic is available in English, German, and the languages of the EU countries most at risk from this bacterium according to EFSA’s 2019 pest risk assessment on the topic: French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Slovenian, Croatian and Greek. The four-page comic strip can be downloaded from the EFSA website at: https://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/infographics/who-fastidious-x-fearsome-killer
