Xylella seminar: Biotremology approach to interfer with Xylella fastidiosa vectors behaviour

Event

Description

Ninth seminar of the new Xylella Seminar Series jointly organised by the EU funded Bexyl project, EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) and Auburn University. Valerio Mazzoni, Fondazione Edmund Mach (Italy), gave a presentation entitled Biotremology approach to interfer with Xylella fastidiosa vectors behaviour. His talk focused on the behavioral manipulation by means of vibrations of two Xylella vectors, Philaenus spumarius and Homalodisca vitripennis, describing their mating behavior and the use of vibrational signals to disrupt their sexual and feeding activities, thereby mitigating the risk of Xylella spread.
