We shouldn't take plant health issues for granted

Description

Opinion in The Parliament magazine.

The Euphresco network, established in 2006, unifies Europe's phytosanitary research and has grown into a global collaboration to address plant health issues. It provides a framework for sharing and implementing plant health knowledge. The new strategic research agenda sets transnational research priorities for the next decade, aligning with EU regulations to prevent pest entry and spread. These regulations emphasize risk assessment based on pest biology, global trade, and climate change. Effective pest management requires shared responsibility among governments, growers, companies, NGOs, landowners, and the public. The agenda fosters dialogue and coordination among policymakers and stakeholders, with EU member states, the European Commission, and the European Food Safety Authority playing key roles.
